This retail developer came to Ecoscape as it was building its Carolina Commons project. When we first met, Red Partners was in the process of purchasing several water meters for use with their proposed irrigation system for their 2 acre parcel. They planned to connect to the municipal water system as their source of water for irrigation as well as general usage.
The region was in the midst of a severe drought and the local municipality had placed mandatory water use restrictions on outdoor watering. Relying on the municipal system as the source of water for irrigation would have been problematic at best. After studying the surveys and consulting with local drillers, our irrigation experts made a recommendation to Red Partners that they install their own well. Once the client realized they could be in control of their own water supply, it was simply a matter of determining the costs. We were able to put together a package that made financial sense, and one where the client would realize an immediate return on their initial investment. Red Partners distributed the costs across the individual parcels in the project, while also passing along the savings in the monthly water and sewerage bills to its tenants.
Red Partners has been highly pleased with this solution to their problem—today they have access to water at any time, and can maintain control over the health and vitality of their grounds accordingly. Ecoscape also elected to install hardy and drought-resistant plants, which make for easier maintenance of an attractive and healthy landscape while using a lot less water.
Our design for the client’s irrigation system achieved two important goals: considerable long-term water and dollar savings, and reducing their environmental footprint.
