We all have an impact on the environment—at Ecoscape we are committed to finding ways to reduce the size of our footprint as the result of our daily operations. The following are current practices we have chosen to reduce our own impact. We continue to look for new ways of limiting our impact and welcome your ideas and best ecological practices.
Maintenance Service Routing. We carefully plan and schedule our service and maintenance routes to eliminate duplication and routing inefficiencies. This is accomplished by a software mapping system that schedules our vehicle routes and service providers’ time most effectively. The result focuses our efforts to put all our resources where and when they are most needed, while reducing fuel consumption as well.
Recycling Program. We recycle our office waste through a Mecklenburg County-sponsored commercial recycling program. We recycle some 12,000 pounds of cardboard and paper products per year—keeping these materials out of the local landfills and reducing the number of trees cut for new paper products. Diverting waste from landfills. Organic yard waste and rubbish is taken to a local composting site, where it is turned into a clean and local source for top-soil, mulch and soil conditioner. This practice also reduces demand for fossil fuel-derived and chemically produced materials.
Liquid fertilizer. This is the only kind we use because plants absorb it faster. This reduces run-off, keeping most of the fertilizer working on the plants for which it was intended, and out of local streams and groundwater.
